Counselling is not an easy journey – but it is always worthwhile

I understand that sometimes there is not always an answer to every problem and sometimes it is simply about taking the journey with another person that actually makes the difference. Counselling is sometimes simply about taking the space and time to talk about your problems in confidence and sharing troubles and thoughts with an impartial listener.

Hi, I’m Amy Murray.

 Initial contact

In this stage, we can talk about the different approaches to counselling, and decide which one will work best for you.

 Counselling sessions

Counselling sessions are 50 minutes each and work best when you attend weekly. These can run for as long as necessary and we can be guided by the process.

 Afterwards

If you wish to arrange longer term counselling, or ‘check-in’ sessions monthly, I am happy to talk through your requirements.

What Is Counselling?

Counselling is a method of therapy that works through talking. It is a journey, where we can talk through any problems or troubling thoughts you may be having, and consider how to deal with your problems in a confidential and respectful discussion. It is not an easy option and it takes great courage to talk about your feelings openly, perhaps for the first time.

No matter what, through my counselling in Benfleet, I am here to listen with empathy.

Different types of therapy

My approach to counselling in Benfleet is often integrative, combining many of the elements of the therapies listed to give you tailored counselling that is best suited to you. I can combine the following approaches to your counselling journey:

Psychodynamic counselling/psychotherapy

This approach considers whether something subconscious or repressed is affecting you negatively, and addressing this.

CBT (Cognitive behavioural therapy)

This therapy is aimed at addressing thoughts, feelings, and behaviour that are unhelpful to your wellbeing.

Person-centred therapy

This enables you to focus on yourself, and to explore and understand your self and your problems from a non-judgemental perspective.

Transactional analysis

This therapy requires you to understand your thinking from a different state, as if you were a child or a parent, or an adult, as a way to solve emotional problems.

Inner child work

Allowing you to engage with your inner child to resolve problems from your past as well as in your present.

Solution focused

This therapy is very much focussed on what you want to achieve through therapy, and what you want to achieve in the future.

Trauma and how it affects us

There are many negative ways in which trauma can affect you long after the event itself has passed. We can work through these problems together.

Stress, depression and anxiety

These extremely common mental health problems shouldn’t ruin your life. My counselling in Benfleet can help.

Anger

It is completely normal to feel anger but when it becomes intense, constant or irrational it can turn destructive and affect home and work.  Anger is often an emotion attached to other issues such as depression, anxiety, fear and loss. If unchecked could lead to frustration, lack of sleep, substance misuse and isolation resulting in a self-perpetuating cycle.

Grief and Bereavement

A person can experience any loss as grief. Bereavement is the period of grief and mourning after a death. Many may experience grief as a mental, physical, or social emotional reaction.  Mental reactions can include anger, guilt, anxiety, extreme sadness and despair.
